It is my belief that suffering in silence can be a killer. My life's work is dedicated to ending the stigma against mental health, and that begins with Healing Out Loud.
We heal out loud by sharing not only our struggles, but our solutions. Healing Out Loud isn't about bonding through trauma, it's about not feeling alone, and finding a community and healthy coping mechanisms. Healing out loud can mean anything: painting, kayaking, making music. The idea is that if we all share how we heal out loud, we will start to see that we don't need to suffer in silence.
The idea behind healing out loud is to first start a social media campaign - for people to use the #HealingOuLoud tag and create a movement. Eventually, I want Healing Out Loud to be a platform for anyone and everyone to be able to share their story, find others who may have similar experiences, and be connected to resources that could impact their life in a beneficial way
Using the #HealingOutLoud tag will be used across any relevant social media platform. The idea being to generate real stories so others see they are not alone. Studies show that the use of audio journaling or written journaling can seriously benefit a person's mental health, along with other creative outlets that come with social media such as photography and editing.
Merchandise is a hot commodity and all the rage. Eventually, I would like to have meaningful merchandise for sale that encourages reaching out for help and healing out loud. My vision is to use the proceeds from this to donate to non-profit organizations that directly aid in behavioral health and ending the stigma.
I would like to have a committee that stays up-to-date on current or outdated policies having to deal with mental health, suicide, etc. to see how we can make an impact and be advocates for change.
When the movement becomes large enough, we will also help to facilitate events for those who want to be proactive about their mental health, need someone in their corner, or feel alone in their struggles. Workshops and activities that promote emotional strength and coping strategies will be led by educated members of the community - whether it be a geographical community, or a community such as First Responders, Veterans, Students, children of divorced parents, etc.
